Description

3.7 Acres plan walled garden, built c.1800. This is a unique opportunity to purchase a 200 year old walled garden, purpose built between 1790-1840 as part of the Dalystown estate. The walls are 18ft high all around with a thickness of 2½ -4ft. It was made of red brick which was sourced locally and with internal limestone backing. The walls are fully intact; they have never been breached in all this time. It encloses two acres of extraordinary dry land with the advantage of natural heat and shelter on all four sides throughout the entire year. There is one main entrance on the left hand side, off the main road and that is the main entrance to this walled-in garden. There is a pedestrian entrance at the front. Both these entrances were incorporated back in the early 1800’s and the gates are still intact and functioning. Also, the original key of this orchard is still in use in the actual lock. There is also a one acre field (the paddock) alongside the left hand side of the walled in garden. In total there are three acres of land for sale. There is a residual blacksmith/coachman’s house attached to the garden in the paddock and this can be used for applying for planning permission for retention and/or building of a new house there. Also, there is the possibility of applying to the County Council for permission for one house within the orchard.
This is a truly unique feature because the likes of this walled-in garden will not come on the market again, if ever, so this is probably the last opportunity for an enterprising individual to purchase a walled-in garden of two acres and an acre outside with history going back to the 1800’s; nothing will come on the market again ever like this.
